Club Competitions

The Club has both internal competitions for its own members and also takes part in many external competitions against other clubs.

The following rules cover the Club’s internal competitions.

All images must be submitted on the hand-in date or earlier, no late entries will be accepted.

Prints should be handed in on the hand-in date or by prior arrangement with the Internal Competitions Secretary. Digital Projected Images (DPIs) should be emailed to the Internal Competitions Secretary.

Prints must be mounted in window mounts to comply with SPF guidelines, with a maximum mount size of 50cm x 40cmor 20in by 16in. This mount size is recommended even for prints of A4 and other sizes.

Prints should be labelled on the back in the top left hand corner of the mount, for identification and orientation. The rear of the print/mount should be free of any other stickers or labels.

The label should have the following format:

  • KCC A or F (for Advanced or Foundation) Membership No. Title e.g. KCC A 99 Sea View.

DPIs must be in JPEG format and sized to be no greater than a maximum width of 1600 pixels no greater than amaximum height of 1200 pixels.

DPIs should be named as follows (to preserve the anonymity of the author):

  • KCC A or F (for Advanced or Foundation) Membership No. Title e.g. KCC F 25 Hurricane.

All DPIs and prints entered must be entirely the work of the photographer. Composite images are permitted provided allcomponent images meet this requirement. For the avoidance of doubt, use of images from any other source including,but not limited to, royalty free image banks and clipart are not permitted.

KCC reserves the right to retain entries for public exhibition, inter-club and other competitions and the Club website.

There are two levels in the DPI competitions, Print competitions and Annual competition:

Foundation: Inexperienced members or beginners

Advanced: Members who have previously won twice at Foundation level or are experienced

DPI and Print Competitions (Foundation and Advanced)

Two DPI competitions judged by an external judge

  • Up to 3 images may be entered in each competition

Two Print competitions (colour and monochrome) judged by an external judge

  • Up to 2 images may be entered in each category (Colour & Mono) in each competition
  • Any image, or significantly similar one, which has been placed in the top 3 may not be resubmitted in asubsequent competition

Creative Digital Competition

  • Images should be ‘creative’ in some way, either in-camera or using software
  • Up to 3 DPI images may be entered (as per guidelines above)
  • Judged by the audience on the night, all members equal

Smartphone Photography DPI competition

  • A series of four DPI images on a theme may be entered (as per guidelines above).
  • All images must have been taken on a mobile phone
  • Any post processing should be done in the phone only and not using any external software
  • Judged by the audience on the night; all members equal
  • A maximum of two entries per member

Annual competition (Foundation and Advanced)

Monochrome prints, colour prints and DPIs

  • Up to 3 images may be entered in each category
  • Judged by a guest judge with 1st, 2nd and 3rd awarded in each category and for each level
  • No image may be submitted into multiple categories in the Annual
