We begin October with a Zoom presentation by award winning fine art landscape and portrait photographer Carmen Norman. In her talk ‘Lake District Moods’ Carmen will share with us her intimate knowledge of The Lake District where she captures outstanding images of secret and quiet locations and will give advice about the best times to visit the popular spots to capture the iconic images. Carmen is a Nikon Professional and runs workshops in the lakes showing people how to make the most of their cameras and helps them create their own stunning images.
October sees the first of our two external competitions and takes place with The Perthshire Alliance held at The Perth Civil Service Club. An afternoon where we will meet up with two local photography clubs and in friendly combat our images are critiqued by an external judge who has the difficult task of scoring each image and deciding on the winning club. October sees the first of our club competitions ‘Fortune and Greer’ and Smartphone photography. A friendly evening where the submitted images are judged by club members on the night.
We look forward to a zoom presentation by photographer Kieran Metcalfe titled ‘Taming The Chaos’. Kieren talks about exercising photographic control in the landscape. ‘Landscape photography relies on two components, the atmospheric conditions, which you cannot control, and the composition of the scene – which you absolutely can’. He will talk about the principles of composition which he has learnt along the way and applies to his images.
The month ends with a favourite called ‘Everyone a Judge’ An evening which gives members a chance to put on a judging hat. A selection of previously scored images from another photography club are displayed in a slideshow and we are invited to give our own score for each image. Often we agree with the original judges score and sometimes we don’t! Always in good humour this is an entertaining evening.
Our featured photograph this month is called ‘Arran Hills from Goatfell‘ This fabulous shot was taken by Bill Paton at the top of Glen Rosa with Paps of Jura in the far distance.
